FC Cincinnati sign Álvaro Barreal - Occupies last international spot
According to a report by Pat Brennan from the Cincinnati-based The Enquire, Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati have acquired Vélez Sarsfield winger Álvaro Barreal. FC Cincinnati have made the deal official on Sep. 2.
Update Sep. 2: “We are always seeking for interesting, good young talents in the national and international markets to strengthen our roster,” General Manager Gerard Nijkamp said in a club statement. “In our opinion, Álvaro Barreal is this type of potential talent who can compete within our squad and must now take the next step in his career at FC Cincinnati.”
The deal was made possible after FC Cincy traded Kekuta Manneh to the New England Revolution earlier this month. That move freed up an international spot, which will now be occupied by the 20-year-old Argentine.
Financial details have not been disclosed but Barreal's current market value is $990,000. The winger has played 15 games in the Argentine Superliga this season, scoring one goal.
