Pedro Vite joins Vancouver Whitecaps - Independiente receive significant fee
The Vancouver Whitecaps have added another significant piece to the club's roster. On Thursday, the Major League Soccer side announced the transfer of Independiente del Valle star Pedro Vite. The 19-year-old midfielder was signed until the end of the 2025 MLS season and will be a part of the league's U22 Initiative. The fee is expected to be in the region of $2.5 million, the fourth largest in Whitecaps history.
“Pedro is a young player who at only 19 years of age has already shown tremendous upside in the early stages of his professional career,” said Whitecaps sporting director and CEO Axel Schuster in a club statement. “With his unique skills, especially his vision for the final pass, we believe that he will be a great addition to our roster. But he is a very young player, so we need to be patient with Pedro and help him to adapt to a new country and new league first.”
The 11-times Ecuadorian youth international arrives with a significant pedigree. The 19-year-old was a significant part of Independiente and has scored three goals and 6 assists in 25 games across all competitions. Vite can play several positions in midfield and is considered one of Ecuador's top talents.
