Reyna show against Freiburg - Borussia Dortmund rebound from Augsburg defeat
US men's national team player Giovanni Reyna had a sensational afternoon in Dortmund. The Borussia Dortmund playmaker contributed three assists in his club's 4-0 victory over SC Freiburg. The result comes just one week after Dortmund's 2-0 defeat to Augsburg and days after the 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the DFL Supercup.
From the very beginning, the Black and Yellows were determined to rectify recent results. But it took Dortmund until the 31st minute to finally find a way through a well organized Freiburg backline. Marco Reus won the ball in his own half, he spotted Reyna and his pass unleashed Erling Haaland to score with a shot in the long corner.
Dortmund took the lead into halftime and then just two minutes into the second half would double the lead. Once again Reyna was involved. The 17-year-old's corner found Emre Can inside the box, the German national team player's header then beat goalkeeper Florian Müller.
The game was won but Reyna was not done. In the 66th minute, he produced another piece of magic when his pass once again found Haaland. The Norwegian easily scored his second of the game. Then in the 80th minute, Reyna's night was over, the midfielder being replaced by Reinier. Reyna might have been done but Dortmund were not. In the 92nd minute, Julian Brandt sent Haaland into the box, the Norwegian squared the ball for Felix Passlack, who simply tapped the ball across the line.
